English theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephan Hawkins aged, 76, passes away on 14 March 2018, leaving a void in the science world. Hawking took his last breath in the early hours of Wednesday as stated by his family.

He was one of the brightest star in the scientific community, unraveling many hidden cosmic mysteries and inspiring millions to think beyond their limitations. Along with many scientific papers and notes, Stephen Hawkins also authored books that became bestsellers. His book “My Brief History” recounted Stephen Hawking’s improbable journey, from his post-war London boyhood to his years of international acclaim and celebrity. Published for the first time in 1988, it sold 10 millions copies and was translated into 40 different languages and took Hawkins to stardom.

Stephan Hawkins Disease

Hawkins suffered from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a neurodegenerative disease commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, which is usually fatal within a few years but his indomitable spirit and love for life and science made him live and prosper. Due to this disease, he was wheel-chair bound and was completely dependent on others or on technology for virtually everything but his brain kept on working and thinking till his last breath.

Hawkins proposal that black holes radiate heat stirred up one of the most passionate debates in modern cosmology. Hawking argued that if a black hole could evaporate into a bath of radiation, all the information that fell inside over its lifetime would be lost forever. It contradicted one of the most basic laws of quantum mechanics, and plenty of physicists disagreed. Hawking has made major contributions to the field of general relativity whose interpretations were made from a deep understanding of what was relevant to physics and astronomy, and especially from a mastery of wholly new mathematical technique.

Stephan Hawkins Family

Hawking was married twice. With his first wife, Jane Wilde, he exchanged wedding vows when he was still a grad student and remained together for 30 years before divorcing in 1995. Hawking was later married for 11 years to Elaine Mason, one of his former nurses. Hawking leaves behind three children - Lucy, Robert and Tim and three grandchildren.

He always exhibited positivity and radiance to its zenith and hence His life was dramatized in the 2014 movie, "The Theory of Everything".

Stephan Hawkins Awards

Hawking received numerous awards and honors for his outstanding contributions. The list includes- Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) 1974, BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Basic Sciences 2015, for discovering that the galaxies were formed from quantum fluctuations in the early Universe. Hawking received the lifetime achievement award for his contribution to science and British Culture in 2016 from Prime Minister Theresa May.

Fellow scientists along with his admirers and followers are tweeting condolences and remembrances.

Stephen Hawking Famous Quotes

Even if there is only one possible unified theory, it is just a set of rules and equations. What is it that breathes fire into the equations and makes a universe for them to describe? The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model cannot answer the questions of why there should be a universe for the model to describe. Why does the universe go to all the bother of existing?

All of my life, I have been fascinated by the big questions that face us, and have tried to find scientific answers to them. If, like me, you have looked at the stars, and tried to make sense of what you see, you too have started to wonder what makes the universe exist.

We should seek the greatest value of our action.

It is a waste of time to be angry about my disability. One has to get on with life and I haven't done badly. People won't have time for you if you are always angry or complaining.

The whole history of science has been the gradual realization that events do not happen in an arbitrary manner, but that they reflect a certain underlying order, which may or may not be divinely inspired.

I relish the rare opportunity I've been given to live the life of the mind. But I know I need my body and that it will not last forever.

The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.
